April is the start of spring in Tibet. The days get longer and the plateau warms up. It is one of the best months for Everest Base Camp, with clear skies before the summer rains start.

Strong sun: UV levels in April are among the highest of the year on the plateau. Always use high-factor sunscreen, sunglasses and a sun hat. You can burn within 20 minutes at high altitude.
What to Wear in April
Wear layers you can take off. Mornings and evenings are still cold, but midday can feel warm. Bring a medium down jacket for the mornings and evenings, a fleece or shirt for the middle of the day, and a windproof jacket for windy days. A sun hat and sunglasses are a must.
What to Visit in April
Lhasa & the Holy City
All the main sights are open: the Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Barkhor Street, Drepung and Sera. Pleasant temperatures and few crowds make April a lovely month in Lhasa. Tibet is open to foreign visitors through March and April.
Shigatse & Tsedang
Tashilhunpo Monastery, Sakya Monastery and the Yarlung Valley around Tsedang are all open. April is one of the best months for the road from Lhasa to Everest.
Namtso Lake
Namtso may still be partly frozen in early April, a beautiful sight of ice and sky. The lake area usually opens in April. We check before your trip.
Everest Base Camp (5,200m)
April is one of the best months for Everest Base Camp. Climbers arrive for the spring season, and clear skies give great views of the north face of Everest.
