What to Visit in June
Namtso Lake (4,718m)
A great month for Namtso: green grassland, nomads with their herds and the lake at its most beautiful.
Tsetang / Shannan
The cradle of Tibetan culture, with Samye Monastery and Yumbulagang Palace. Pleasant June weather makes it a joy to explore.
Everest Base Camp (5,200m)
Still a good month for Everest, before the cloudiest weeks of July and August. Early June is better than late June.
Mt. Kailash (Ngari)
June is a good month for the Kailash kora, though rain becomes more likely later in the month. The grassland around Lake Manasarovar is beautiful.
What to Wear in June
Light clothes for the daytime, with a fleece or medium jacket for the evenings. Always carry a light rain jacket from mid-June. Sunscreen and good sunglasses are essential.
Rainy season note: in Tibet the summer rain falls mostly in the evening and at night, so days are mostly sunny. It is very different from the monsoon in lowland Asia, and most June days in Lhasa are perfect for sightseeing.
