What you can see in 7 days
Seven days is the shortest comfortable trip to Everest Base Camp. After Lhasa and the road west through Gyantse and Shigatse, you reach the Rongbuk valley and see the north face of Everest from base camp at about 5,200 m, then drive back to Lhasa.
The same week also takes you across the Himalaya overland from Lhasa to Kathmandu, or the other way round, on the Friendship Highway. If you prefer forests to high passes, a week in Lhasa and Nyingchi is the gentler choice.
A typical 7-day Everest route
- Days 1–3 — Lhasa
- Day 4 — Yamdrok Lake, Gyantse, Shigatse
- Day 5 — Drive to Everest Base Camp
- Day 6 — Sunrise on Everest, drive back towards Shigatse
- Day 7 — Return to Lhasa, departure
Who it suits
Travellers whose main wish is to stand in front of Everest, and those who want to cross from Tibet into Nepal or the other way. It suits people in good health who are happy with two or three long driving days.
Good to know
Everest trips need extra permits for the border area, which we arrange. The clearest views of Everest come in April, May, October and November.
