Potala Atmosphere Restaurant
The Potala Atmosphere Restaurant in Lhasa is a restaurant and bar in one, mixing Tibetan, Chinese and Western food. From the moment you walk in, the Tibetan decoration makes you feel you are somewhere special.
The Atmosphere
Carved wooden windows, bright glass and painted beams give the restaurant a warm Tibetan feel with modern comfort. It is one of the most photographed restaurant interiors in Lhasa.
Three Floors, Three Experiences
- Ground floor — low windows open onto the street, so you feel part of Lhasa’s street life.
- First floor — the main dining room, serving Tibetan hotpot, “Potala pizza” and Tibetan snacks and drinks.
- Top floor — the bar, with Tibetan décor and live music in the evening. Guests are welcome to join in the singing and dancing.
Signature Dishes
- Tibetan hotpot — the restaurant’s best-known dish: a rich broth with yak meat and vegetables, cooked at your table.
- Potala pizza — a Western pizza with Tibetan ingredients such as yak meat.
- Tibetan snacks — small plates such as momos, fried yak meat and potato dishes.
- Tibetan drinks — butter tea, sweet tea and chang (barley beer).
Evening tip: come after 9 pm for the live music on the top floor. Remember to wait a few days after arriving before you drink alcohol.
