Tibet Train Facilities
Everything you need to know about sleeping berths, dining, oxygen supply and bathrooms on the world’s highest railway
On-Board Facilities Guide
As the Tibet train runs on the world’s highest railway — the Qinghai-Tibet Railway — the trains are tailor-made for the special elevation, temperature and conditions along the route to Lhasa. Here’s a complete guide to what’s available on board.
Soft Sleeper Berth Train
The soft sleeper is the first-class option on Tibet trains — 4 berths in a private, lockable compartment. More comfortable and private than the hard sleeper for long journeys.
Meals on Tibet Train — Train Restaurant
Each Tibet train is equipped with a dining car offering 3 meals a day plus Tibetan specialties. Food carts also pass through the carriages during meal times.
Oxygen Supply on Tibet Train
Tibet trains offer two oxygen supply systems to combat altitude effects — one enriches cabin air, the other supplies personal oxygen via individual tubes at each berth.
Toilet & Bathroom on Tibet Train
Each Tibet train carriage has both Asian and Western-style toilets, plus shared sink areas. Here’s what to expect and what to bring.
Hard Sleeper Berth Train
The hard sleeper is the popular budget option on Tibet trains — 6 open berths per compartment in 3 tiers. Good value but less privacy than the soft sleeper.
