What you can see in 11 days

Eleven days opens up the far west of Tibet: Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar. The drive from Lhasa takes several days, and the walk around the mountain, the kora, takes three. The kora is sacred to Buddhists, Hindus, Jains and Bön followers, and is the most important pilgrimage in Tibet.

This length also fits Everest with the forests of Nyingchi in one trip, longer overland and train routes from Xining, and journeys that join China, Tibet and Nepal.

A typical 11-day Kailash route

  • Days 1–3 — Lhasa
  • Days 4–6 — West through Shigatse and Saga to Lake Manasarovar
  • Days 7–9 — The Kailash kora
  • Days 10–11 — Return and departure

Who it suits

Pilgrims and walkers who want Mount Kailash, and travellers who want to combine Everest with the forests of the east. The Kailash kora is a real walk at high altitude, so this length suits people who are fit and have walked in the mountains before.

Good to know

The kora crosses the Drolma La pass at about 5,630 m, so it is for travellers in good health. Kailash trips need extra permits for the west, which we arrange. Best months are May to September.
