What you can see in 10 days
Ten days lets you combine Everest Base Camp with central Tibet at an easy pace, with time at Gyantse and Shigatse on the way. You can also start in Kathmandu and fly or drive into Tibet, or begin in Beijing and spend two nights on the train to Lhasa.
For travellers who like the road itself, the Sichuan–Tibet highway G318 crosses the eastern mountains from Chengdu to Lhasa. Walkers can follow the quiet trail past Shalu and Nartang monasteries.
A typical 10-day route
- Days 1–3 — Lhasa
- Days 4–5 — Yamdrok Lake, Gyantse, Shigatse
- Days 6–7 — Everest Base Camp and Rongbuk
- Days 8–9 — Back by way of Shigatse to Lhasa
- Day 10 — Departure
Who it suits
Travellers who want Everest without rushing, and those coming from Kathmandu or Beijing who want the journey into Tibet to be part of the trip. The slower pace leaves time for rest days, photography and smaller monasteries along the way.
Good to know
The train from Beijing takes about two days and climbs slowly, which helps with the altitude. We book train tickets and arrange all permits.
