Frequently asked questions
Do you run the Nepal part of these tours yourselves?
Travel with us from start to finish. We run Tibet with our own team. For Nepal, Bhutan or other parts of China, we work with local partners we have known for years — and we stay with you the whole way.
Can I fly between Kathmandu and Lhasa, or do I have to drive?
You can always fly. The flight takes about one and a half hours and crosses the main Himalaya. The road route crosses at Gyirong and takes several days, showing you Everest’s north side and the plateau on the way — but the road border opens and closes at short notice: Gyirong is closed for rebuilding, and Zhangmu opens only from time to time. We confirm the situation before you travel, and if no border is open, you fly. See our Gyirong border travel advisory.
When is the best time for a trip like this?
April to June and September to October are the classic windows, with the clearest mountain views. The monsoon runs roughly June to September; winter is cold at altitude but quiet and very clear.
How quickly will I hear back?
We reply to inquiries within 12 hours. Nothing is confirmed until you have seen the itinerary and the price for your own dates.
We answer within 12 hours, Monday to Saturday.
