8–14 Day Tibet Tours

What eight to fourteen days opens up

With eight to fourteen days, the whole plateau is on the table. This is the window where Everest Base Camp gets the time it deserves — our most popular itinerary is the eight-day Lhasa to Everest Base Camp tour — and where the bigger journeys become possible: the classic Ganden to Samye trek, the 52-kilometre kora around Mount Kailash, overland arrivals along the G318 from Sichuan or by train from Xining, Chengdu or Beijing, and routes that continue across the Himalaya to Kathmandu.

The same rule about altitude applies, only more so: longer itineraries go higher, with passes above 5,000 metres, so build in the slow days. Every one of these routes starts with acclimatization in Lhasa before the road takes you up.

Choosing between them

Every itinerary listed above includes the Tibet Travel Permit, a Tibetan guide, ground transport and hotels with breakfast; the day-by-day page of each tour shows exactly where you sleep and what each day covers. Travelling on your own? You can join one of our small group departures, or take any of these routes as a private trip on your own dates.

Is eight days enough for Everest Base Camp?

Yes — our most popular itinerary is the eight-day Lhasa to Everest Base Camp tour, with two acclimatization days in Lhasa before driving south to the North Face.

Which 8-14 day itineraries include Mount Kailash?

Two: the 11-day Mt. Kailash Pilgrimage Tour with the classic 52 km kora, and the 13-day Mt. Kailash & Guge Kingdom Tour, which adds the ancient kingdom of Guge in far western Tibet.

Do any of these tours start outside Tibet?

Yes — several begin with a train ride from Xining, Chengdu or Beijing, one follows the G318 overland from Sichuan, and others cross the Himalaya to or from Kathmandu.
