D01 Arrive in Lhasa and have a rest for acclimatization

Accommodation: Kailash Hotel 3* or similar class if late booking

Fly Beijing or Kathmandu to Lhasa, upon arrival at Gonggar Airport, be greeted and offered a white scarf (called Kada) in a Tibet traditional way which brings you good luck. Then drive to the city proper (3650 m). On the way you will enjoy the spectacular scenery, and the typical Tibetan villages as well as the Yak-skin-boat cruising on Yalung Tsangpo River. Stay at the hotel for adapting to the high attitude upon your arrival. It is helpful to take things easy for the first few days, and try to drink some water just and now (be noted the first day’s acclimation is extremely to ensure you a good health status for the following tour, so please make sure you have yourself lie in bed for all the rest time of the day right after check-in of hotel).

 

D02 Lhasa Sightseeing [B+L+D]

Stay at the hotel for adapting to the high attitude in the morning. D03 Lhasa Sightseeing [B+L+D]

Visit Potala Palace for the whole morning, then in the afternoon, go for a tour of Sera Monastery. After that, go for a local Tibetan family visit if you are interested in.

 

D04 Lhasa/Samye Monastery/Tsedang [B+L+D]

Accommodation: Tsedang Yulong Holiday Hotel 3* or similar class if late booking

Morning drive forward to Tsedang, the capital in Shannan Area, also the cradle of Tibetan culture. Please note: in this city, all the alien people must live in a hotel since it is the military restrictive area. Visit is to the magnificent Samye Monastery en route.

D05 Tsedang Sightseeing [B+L+D]

Accommodation: Tsedang Yulong Holiday Hotel 3* or similar class if late booking

In the morning, make a trip in the Yarlung valley to visit the Yumbulakhang, a medieval-European castle-like structure, reputed as Tibet’s oldest building. It doesn’t take that long to explore Yumblagang, perhaps the best part of the vist is the walk up along the ridge abour the building. There’re fabulous views of the Yarlung valley.

 

D06 Tsedang/Gyantse [B+L+D]

Today have a 350 km driving to get to Gyantse, a famous historical city. on the Ganba La (4,796 m) have a fantastic view of the holy lake of Yamdrok Yumtso (4441 m).

D07 Gyantse/Shigatse [B+L+D]

Accommodation: Shigatse Wutse Hotel 3* or similar class if late booking

In the morning, visit Pelkor Monastery as well as the splendid Kumbum Stupa (100-Thousand-Buddha Pagoda) nearby Gyantse. After that drive onward to Shigatse, which is the second largest city in Tibet and also the hometown of Panchen Lama. On the way visit Shalu Monastery. Upon arrival, have a visit to the Tashilumpu Monastery , the main attraction of Shigatse city and its free market. Today 90 km drive on the paved road.

 

D08 Shigatse/Shegar [B+L+D]

Accommodation: Shegar Everest Hotel

Morning continue driving to Shegar via Gyatsola Mountain Pass (5220m). It takes 6-7 hours to get there covering 310 km. The road is bumpy and dusty. On the way, if the time limited, make an excursion to Sakya Monastery (4.280 m). Today you can appreciate the evening scenery of Mt. Everest enough.

D09 Shegar/EBC/Lhatse [B+L+D]

Accommodation: Lhatse Shanghai Hotel 3*

Drive further in to the mountains to get to Mt. Everest Base Camp. Today have to get up and leave for Mt. Everest earlier than before. The road condition to the Base Camp is rough, back and forth distance is 220 km. On the way visit Rongbuk Monastery. After enjoy the stunning view of Mt.Everest, we will drive back to Lhatse and check in.

 

D10 Lhatse/Shigatse [B+L+D] 

Accommodation: Shigatse Wutse Hotel 3* or similar class if late booking

Drive back to Shigatse.

 

D11 Shigatse/Namtso [B+L+D]

Accommodation: Damxung Golden Pearl Hotel 2* or similar class if late booking

Drive to Damxung from Shigatse city in the morning. Have a shot stop for the beautiful view of the grassland near Yangpacheng, on the way, pay a visit the HOME monastery of Garma Kargyuelpa order—Curpu monastery. Check in the best hotel in Damxung.

D12 Namtso/Nachu [B+L+D]

In the early morning, forward to Namtso Lake. By the lake, you can view the peak of Nyianchentangula (7162m). Photo enthusiast can shot sunrise at Namtso Lake. Then have a little hiking around Namtso Lake and explore the Tashi peninsula by walking around the holy hill, the cliffs of which have eroded over the centuries. Visit Tashi Dor monastery. On the way piles of mani stones stand. If lucky, you could have a glance of the nomads in yak hair tents who have been living on the pastures between the holy Nam Tso and Nyenchentangla. In the afternoon, drives to Nachu, afternoon take a city tour. If during the Horse Race Festival, you could enjoy yourself among the locals. The northern route of Sichuan – Tibet Highway (Chengdu - Lhasa) and the Qinghai-Tibet Highway (Golmud – Lhasa) meet in Naqu.

Today you could do the Tashi Dor Monastery Kora if you like, there are some fine walks in this area. The short kora path takes less than an hour. It leads off west from the accommodation area to a chapel hidden behind a large splinter of rock. Another main attraction of a trip to Namtso is the opportunity to get a peek at the otherwise inaccessible nomadic life of the Changtang, Tibet’s vast northern plateau. You may get the opportunity to stop at the brown or black spider-like tents of nomads.

 

D13 Nakchu/Sok Dzong, 230 km [B+L+D]

Accommodation: Simple Guesthouse only

Cross over two passes covering 100 km to get reach the city of Shakchuka. After that still two other passes have to be mastered before get to the monastery of Nyimpa sect—Sok Tsanden Gompa. Have a visit in this monastery, then continue to the Sok Tsanden Zhol village. Finally arrive at today’s destination Sok Dzong, Sok means in Tibetan “Mongolia”..

D14 Sok Dzong/Baqing/Dengchen, 255 km [B+L+D]

Accommodation: Simple Guesthouse only

Continue to drive 30 km we reach Bacqing, the “big Yak hair tents”. After master Shel La Pass (4750 m) and Tsuri La Pass (4200 m) we arrive at Dengchen. Dengchen means in Tibetan “great terrace”. Dengchen is the center of the Boen-Religion, which is a primitive religion based on ancient witchcraft and the worship to god and ghost, and was spread through the whole Tibet before the Buddhism was introduced into Tibetan area. At the junction of the Song Dynasty (960-1279) and Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368), 39 Hoer tribes of Mongolians migrated to the present day areas of Dengchen, Bachen and Sok Dzong; hence the name of "the Land of the 39 Tribes". Besides, the three counties are rich in Chinese caterpillar fungus.

 

D15 Dengchen/Riwoche, 185 km [B+L+D]

Accommodation: Simple Guesthouse only

Visit two monasteries: Tengchen and Ritro Lhakhang in Dengchen. Then drive on very bad road to get to Riwoche (3810 m). Riwoche means in Tibetan “mountain”.

D16 Riwoche/Chamdo, 105 km [B+L+D]

In the morning drive over the Zholpel La pass (4688 m) to Chamdo. Straddling the Mekong river, Chamdo (3200 m) was the former capital of Kham in East-Tibetan area and has a rich history as one of the earliest centers of the Tibetan plateau and home of Kalden Jampaling, the great monastery founded between 1436-44 and developed through the centuries by successive Living Buddhas. After arrival, have a tour to Galden Jampaling Monastery.

 

D17 Chamdo/Baxoi, 201 km, 6 hours [B+L+D]

Accommodation: simple Yingbinguan Hotel

Drive upstream to Bangda, a town junction where Lhasa connects to the Chamdo-Kunming Highway. The Yu-chu valley lies north of the Salween gorges in the highlands of Tsawagang, where the immense geographic spatial dimensions of the land dwarf our presence. While distance covered is less than 100 km and probably half that by the way the crow flies, the terrain is steep, as defined by the 180 switchbacks we will conquer when we cross Gama La Pass at an altitude of 4,618 meters.

D18 Baxoi/Ranwu/Bome [B+L+D]

On the road to Bome, we will stop in Ranwu to cast our lines in the pristine waters of Ngan Tso (Ranwu Lake), a spectacularly crystal blue lake cupped by snow peaks.  After our lunch of freshly caught fish, we will wander along the Poto-chu Valley at Tramog (2,743 m), located deep in the thickly forested gorge of Parlung Tsangpo with glacial waterfalls streaming from the mountainsides.

 

D19 Bome/Nyingchi [B+L+D]

Accommodation: SaiKang Ruifu Hotel 3* or similar class if late booking

We will go down several hundred meters in altitude as we reach the lowland jungle settlement of Tongmai where the Tsangpo and Parlung Tsangpo rivers meet. Crossing Serkhyem La Pass (4,515 m) we will have spectacular views of Mount Gyala Pelri (7,150 m) and Mount Namchak Barwa (7,782 m). Late in the afternoon arrive in Nyingchi (Nyingtri, Linzhi).

 

D20 Nyingchi/Basum Tso Lake [B+L+D]

The garrison site Nyingchi is an ideal place for the discovery of two neighbouring high points: From the golden roof of the Gelugpa monastery Buchu to view the unique scenery of the Lamaling temple which is only a few kilometers runway. After lunch we drive to the Basum Tso Lake.

D21 Basum Tso Lake/Lhasa [B+L+D]

Enjoy the beautiful scenery of Basum Tso Lake for the whole morning. Then in the afternoon we drive on along the Niyang River for Lhasa. Afterwards we pass through scenic terrain with lush alpine forests and clear snow-melted streams and over the impressing Mi La pass (4865 m) to Lhasa. Late in the afternoon arrive in Lhasa (3650 m), capital of Tibet Autonomous Region. The city is situated on the bank of the Kyichu River and has long been the "Holy Land" of Tibet.
