Samding or Samten Ling gompa (bSam-sding dGon-pa or Samding Dorje Pakmo (bSam lding rDo rje phag mo) English: 'The Temple of Soaring Meditation'. Samding, a Geluk Ani gompa (or nunnery) - which also housed some monks - was built on a hill on a peninsula jutting into the sacred lake, Yar-'brog or Yamdrok Tso, about 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) east of Nangkatse, and some 112 kilometres (70 mi) southwest of Lhasa, at an altitude of 4,423 m or 14,512 ft.

Mindroling Monastery (pronounced MINH-droh-lyng, not Mind-Rolling) is one of the six major monasteries of the Nyingma school in Tibet. It was founded by Rigzin Terdak Lingpa in 1676. Tendrak Lingpa's lineage is known as the Nyo lineage. Mindroling, in Tibetan means "Place of Perfect Emancipation". It is located in Zhanang County, Shannan Prefecture, Tibet Autonomous Region, China, approximately 43 kilometers east of the Lhasa airport, on the south side of the Tsangpo river.
Chim-puk Hermitage is a warren of caves that was once a retreat for Guru Rinpoche, located northeast of Samye. Out of the monastery, there’s a path leading east through some fields. The path crosses through desert-like territory for a couple of hours before ascending into the surprisingly lush area where the caves are found. It is a popular day hike for travelers spending a few days at Samye.
Reting Monastery (Wylie: Rwa-sgreng gom pa) is an historically important Buddhist monastery in Lhünzhub County in the Lhasa Prefecture of central Tibet. It is also commonly spelled "Radreng."
It is the first Buddhist monastery built in Tibet, was most probably constructed between 775 and 779 CE under the patronage of King Trisong Detsen of Tibet who sought to revitalize Buddhism, which had declined since its introduction by King Songtsen Gampo in the 7th century. The monastery is located in Dranang, Shannan Prefecture. It was supposedly modeled on the design of Odantapuri monastery in what is now Bihar, India.
Tradruk Monastery, also written Trandruk, (Wylie): Khra' 'brug, (Pinyin): Changzhug, in the Yarlung Valley is the earliest great geomantic temple after the Jokhang - and some sources say it is even pre-dates the Jokhang. It is located in Nêdong County of Shannan Prefecture in the Tibet Autonomous Region of China, about seven kilometres south of the county seat Tsetang (Ch. Zêtang).
